For my Cat Genie reviews, it’s important to know I have 2 adult cats. A male and a finicky female. I think it’s important for you to know how many cats I have because some of the glowing Cat Genie reviews only have 1 cat. It’s much different with 2 of them.
Setting Up The Cat Genie
I’d read several cat genie reviews where people said set up was easy and I wanted to set it up without my husbands help. It took me under 20 minutes. I have it in my laundry room. Somehow putting it next to the toilet in the bathroom seems weird.
Will the Cat Genie take any cleaning on your part?
Prior to purchasing, most Cat Genie reviews were congruent in that the owner doesn’t have to clean the unit. I found that in 6-months I’ve wiped the outside of the Cat Genie down (like I do my frige or dishwasher) and I vacuum up any of the granules that attach themselves to Daisy, my long haired cat. We also had one “accident” which I describe below.
Settings. When does the Cat Genie clean itself
There are 3 settings for the Cat Genie. Automatic, User Control, Cat Activated. With the Automatic, you can set the unit to run automatically up to 4 times daily. User Control, you can manually run the the unit whenever you wish. Cat Activated runs itself once the cat uses it. Cat Genie must be run at least once per day. In some of the Cat Genie reviews I’d read prior to purchase, people complained of the smell. I called Cat Genie before purchasing and was told the best way to eliminate the smell was to set the unit on Cat Activated. I tried all settings to see what other cat genie reviews were talking about.
I highly recommend the Cat Activated. The Cat Activated mode is said to save money too because the cartridge on the SaniSoluition (cleaner) adjusts itself and dispenses less with each cleaning. After running it in all 3 modes for one week each, I can tell you the Cat Activated mode is the best for keeping the Cat Genie clean and odor free. I’ve read no Cat Genie reviews that decisively suggest this.
In the Automatic mode, I set mine to run 2 times per day and I could smell the waste as it was cleaning. In the Manual mode, forget it. I’d forget to run it. But, here is a situation we had where the manual mode was better.
My unit was in Cat Activation mode and Sebastain had diarrhea. As soon as he used the bathroom, the system would start scooping up diarrhea. One time wouldn’t have been so bad. But when I came home from work, the amount of diarrhea on the scooper had accumulated and I had to clean the scooper. It was gross.
After I cleaned off the scooper, I set the Cat Genie on manual and sifted the diarrhea out until Sebastain got better then returned the setting to Cat Activation. I hadn’t read about this potential problem in any of the Cat Genie reviews so I hope this helps you if you run into it.
Will it really provide an odor free solution to your standard cat litter box
Yes, and I had the best experience with this when set on Cat Activation mode. It is overall a much cleaner setting.
Will it alleviate the health hazards of cat litter and waste?
It appears so. Unlike traditional cat litter, there is no dust with the Cat Genie granules. And, because the unit cleans itself, there is no reason the come into contact with waste. Most of the Cat Genie reviews don’t focus on this. It appears most people who purchase the unit are doing so because they’re tired of cleaning up cat litter.
Will it save you money or will you be throwing good money after bad?
Because the granules in the cat genie are cleaned and sanitized, you won’t throw it away. This eliminates the cost of cat litter. The Cat Genie comes with enough granules to fill a bowl and then an extra box to top it off. I say top it off because some may stick on a cats paws when they’re done and a few granules may go out the drain. They’re biodegradable so not to worry. I haven’t had to purchase any more granules than what came with the unit. I have 2 cats so I go through a cartgidge of SaniSolution every 2 months. I always keep 2 on hand. You won’t read this in any of the Cat Genie reviews. The unit comes with one SaniSolution. Purchase one extra one (at least). I always have 2 extras when I can find a discount for purchasing 2 on Amazon.
As far as cost, one pound of the granules equals 56 pounds of cat litter. So, I’d say it will save money. It should be noted that I wasn’t looking for something to save money, I’d be fine if the cost stayed the same. I was more interested in not having to breathe in the dust, smell the litter box, and lug the dirty litter away. Most of the Cat Genie reviews don’t focus on this, however information from the company does. I’m not so sure other people think this is important.
Where can the CatGenie be placed so it’s not in the way?
Most people place the Cat Genie in their bathroom or Laundry room. It hooks up through the cold water intake of the toilet, washing machine or a sink. That’s why most people put the Cat Genie in one of the 2 rooms I mentioned. The instructions are straight forward and if I can hook this thing up, anyone can. I have mine in the laundry room. I don’t think any of the Cat Genie reviews complain about this being hard to set up. And they shouldn’t. It’s very simple.
Is Cat Genie safe for the environment and your plumbing?
Yes, it’s completely safe. Most of the cat genie reviews are in accordance here. Unlike litter that ends up in landfills. The granules are safe for pipes. They are biodegradable and the few granules that may stick to the waste will go through the drain or septic system.
Where does the waste go?
During the cleaning process, the waste is liquified. Depending on where you place it, it’s then disposed of. If you place it in a bathroom, a hose hooks onto the toilet where the liquid waste drains into the toilet. In a laundry room, the hose hooks up to the drainpipe behind the washing machine and it flows out through the pipe.
Will my cat use it? (Biggest Question of all Cat Genie Reviews)
We all know cats do what they want, when they want, and that’s final. Sebastain knew just what to do with the Cat Genie, maybe he watched a commercial
. Daisy on the other hand, wasn’t too excited about it. She’d use it, but would “hold it in” forever. Because I didn’t want to have to fuss over her and watch her all the time, I decided to make things easier. On the third day, I emptied the granules into a bag to be used later. I filled the Cat Genie with the litter I’ve always used and kept the unit off. Daisy was perfectly fine with that. After one week, I cleaned all the litter out of the Cat Genie, filled it with the granules and life is good.
Some of the Cat Genie Reviews complain that the cat doesn’t like the new unit. So I knew this right away and came up with the above “Plan B” before the box arrived. It worked beautifully for me.
I might mention here, the SaniSolution comes in scented and non scented. I picked the non scented because I didn’t want it to smell different to my cats and give them a reason not to use it.
Also, if you do the “cat litter” method I did, you’ll want to make absolutely sure you do not turn the Cat Genie on with litter in it and when you clean the litter from the Cat Genie be certain you’ve left no litter behind. Litter will damage the Cat Genie and void the warranty.
Where can I find the Cat Genie for the best price?
Most all Cat Genie reviews suggest that Amazon offers Cat Genie at the best price, and I agree. In addition, they offer free shipping and hassle free returns. The price fluctuates between 15% and 25% off the normal price. You can check todays price here.
